Frequently Asked Questions

What is association management?
Many associations rely on volunteer leadership to run their association. In some cases, volunteers are busy, overwhelmed, and become burned out. Records are scattered across the country and members question what their dues are supporting. Unfortunately, this is a story that we hear too often in prospective client meetings. A cost effective and comprehensive solution is PLANiT WORLD association management. We provide management and administrative services to trade associations and non-profits using a for-profit approach that runs your group like a business. Management services can be tailored to your needs and your budget and can turn your professional, trade or non-profit association’s vision into action.

Should I hire someone that is part of my industry to work with my group?
No! Remember that your board of directors governs the decisions of the association and we take our cues from them. We can learn your nomenclature and programs, while providing expertise in the management and administration to make your group flourish. If you wanted to be an association expert, you wouldn’t be a leader in your field. Do what you do best and let us help you deal with the details.

What is the difference between publicity, marketing, and public relations?
A favorite story of ours about public relations, publicity, and marketing goes like this. “If a young man tells his date she’s intelligent, looks lovely, and is a great conversationalist, he’s saying the right things to the right person and that is marketing. If the young man tells his date how handsome, smart, and successful he is — that is advertising. If someone else tells the young woman how handsome, smart, and successful her date is — that public relations.”

PR is the strategic crafting of complex stories and interactions with a range of audiences. It is the focused examination of your interactions and tactics, and when combined, determines what and how people ‘talk’ about you. It involves formative research, strategy development, tactical thought, and ongoing evaluation and program re-setting.

Publicity is another animal altogether. Generally, when smaller groups say they want public relations, they really mean they want publicity. They want their name in the paper, on television, and on the radio. They want a profile and they don’t want to spend millions of dollars on buying advertising. Publicity is getting unpaid media (radio, TV, press) to pay attention, write you up, endorse you, run a photograph and make a big commotion.

Marketing is the third component of the communications trinity that also includes publicity and public relations. Marketing is the paid side of the promotional mix and can include things like advertising, sales outreach, advertorial and direct marketing campaigns.

Can we afford your services?
Yes! In fact, in many cases, you will save money. Because we manage multiple clients, the cost of overhead is shared and buying power is leveraged with vendors to get better pricing. From printing to hotels, the cost saving is passed on to our clients. In most cases, you will find that our services will be less than hiring a singular, work-from-home employee. Best of all, you will be getting experts in each area of administration versus one person, trying to wear all hats for your group.
